Trauma Informed Speech and Language Therapy

Professional Journey

Jocelyn Galloway graduated from University College London in 2011 with a 2;1 in Speech Sciences Bsc. Additional University qualifications include; Postgraduate certificate in Understanding and Managing Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs- Distinction- from Oxford Brookes University in 2019 and a Masters credit course- Language and Mind - through Plymouth Marjon University in 2023. She is RCSLT and HPC registered.

After graduating, Jocelyn started her career at Blossom House School, where she took on many roles, from Secondary Speech and Language therapist, to Head of House and Group Tutor. These roles did not only develop her knowledge and expertise clinically, but also provide insight and understanding of the EHCP process, communicating effectively with local authorities and ensuring appropriate provision was recorded to meet the speech, language and communication needs of the children and young people she worked with.

Since then, Jocelyn worked at Cressey College, where she set up a Speech and Language therapy service, for a further 5 years, where she worked with complex young people who had been excluded from previous settings and needed support to access the curriculum, maintain friendships and stay safe within the community.  This work developed Jocelyn's trauma informed practice, where a real strength in her clinical ability is to build trusting relationships with the children and young people she works with.  Due to a change in location. Jocelyn then moved to a local surrey special educational needs school for those with complex SEN and mental health needs.  Within this role, Jocelyn has set up another Speech and Language therapy provision across the school. Additionally, she has supported parents and carers who have children who are  school refusers, through home visits, to target parent- child interaction skills.

Jocelyn has also been contracted by a local authority to complete initial EHCP Speech and Language Assessment reports to identify strengths, needs, outcomes and provision needed.

Throughout her career, Jocelyn has worked collaboratively with a variety of professionals and will continue to do so with every child and young person she works with to ensure she is providing the best, holistic support for that client.

As part of the Specialist Speech and Language therapist role, Jocelyn delivers whole school staff training, inset day training and small group workshops.
